Designer, Yanni’s Interior Design
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
I was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. I received a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Supervision from The University of Akron. I have opened three retail companies from the ground up and currently own and operate an interior design business.
Why did you decide to pursue your master’s?
After obtaining a bachelor’s degree, it seemed natural to continue my education on a graduate level. This has been a lifelong dream with the hopes of gaining a competitive advantage in my field.
How has what you’ve learned in the program impacted the work you are currently doing? How will it prepare you to be a leader in your industry?
Many of the courses I have taken have impacted my work through practical application. In particular, the Principled Organization: Integrating Faith, Ethics and Work course has been influential in encouraging me to practice critical thinking from a business perspective while considering the human element.
The program will allow me to advance my career by adding an additional level of credibility to my experience.
What advice do you have for others considering this degree?
I will tell others that the University of Dayton’s MBA program offers courses that teach practical wisdom and promote relationships with students, staff and faculty. The online program has a comprehensive and convenient curriculum that prepares students for their future goals while focusing on becoming a whole person educated in body, mind and spirit.
How has MBA@Dayton’s focus on servant leadership influenced the way you approach business?
I feel my education on servant leadership has given me a new approach to business from a place of humility, empathy and compassion for customers, employees and all others involved in the day-to-day business helping to improve people’s lives.
What was it like meeting and connecting with your classmates at your first immersion?
Meeting classmates face-to-face and sharing ideas and values was a positive and fun experience. The immersion gave us an appreciation for building teamwork skills while working toward a common goal: improving business environments as well as ourselves by gaining a sense of purpose.
